Harry Reid to Speak at Yearly Kos Conference

I've written before about the YearlyKos Political Conference to be held on June 8th-11th next year in Las Vegas for and by us, you and me, the committed grassroots.  I said and firmly believe that this conference will be an amazing event with enormous political impact on this country.

Well, today, on-line on DailyKos, we saw a glimpse of what that impact will be like.  We heard that Harry Reid is a for sure speaker and others of our Democratic elected who have written on DailyKos may well follow.  Reid says he and his wife intend to stick around for some of the conference as well.

About the importance of getting Reid to speak:

This leader doesn't just have his finger on the pulse of American politics...in many ways he is the pulse of American poltics.  We are humbled by his acceptance, and we hope you'll be as excited as we are to have him address our community in person.

And more from an accompanying News Release:

"Senator Reid's popularity in the netroots, despite being a moderate-to-conservative Democrat, is proof that we aren't about ideology," said Daily Kos founder Markos Moulitsas. "Rather, we rally around leaders who aren't afraid of their own shadows, aren't afraid of their convictions, and aren't afraid to take the battle to the corrupt neocons, theocons, and corporate cons who are misgoverning our country."

Board member Bill Harnsberger said the YearlyKos convention is a sign of the growing influence of blogs among politicians and the mainstream media.  “It used to be fashionable to snicker at blogs like Daily Kos, but we’re being taken a lot more seriously these days.  Not only are we tenacious watchdogs, we can also mobilize large numbers of people very quickly.  The YearlyKos convention is a chance to sharpen those skills and galvanize our grassroots community even more.”

DailyKos is the new political gathering area. YearlyKos is where we active netrooters will meet each other in person for the first time.  It will be amazing - the modern day version of Woodstock, except expressly for the politically passionate.  They are making great plans. Here's part of the mission statement for the conference:

YearlyKos is a nonprofit corporation that seeks to unite the netroots with the organizations and resources striving to build progressive infrastructure and advance the progressive values of preserving and promoting the environment, equal rights, separation of church and state, good governance, ethics, enlightened international relations, media reform, voters' rights, and election reform.

Simply put, we want to foster collaboration between those who blog and read blogs and the organizations and resources which will benefit from reaching this large and passionate audience.  Through this collaboration, we will build an annual convention.

YearlyKos will bring individuals, institutions, organizations, candidates to the netroots. We won't just bring them to a convention, we'll bring them into the process of building the convention.  We'll invite everyone to collaborate to build the convention agenda in the Think Tank and to reach out to the community in which the convention is to be held in the LAB Las Vegas.  YearlyKos will give velocity to our beliefs, heft to our voice. And we'll leave organization and a common voice in our wake, infrastructure, and the building blocks for a future in which we are not discounted.

It's a great opportunity to be a part of something you care about greatly.  And to see Harry Reid up close and personal.
