Reichert Can Be Beaten

I watched Dave Reichert on KCTS Connects earlier this evening.  He is under a lot of pressure.  I don't think he'd be allowing himself to be interviewed by Enrique Cerna this far ahead of the election if he were not.  This reflects the difficulty that Republicans are having across the country.  The Republicans feel the need to put themselves out in front of the public and they are getting asked more difficult questions than they are used to: "What about the violence in Iraq in the last two days?  Does that impact your thinking about the war?" Or "People believe that President Bush was acting illegally when he approved the NSA wiretapping program.  What do you think?"

Cerna sometimes looked frustrated or moved him off his prepared speaking points rather unceremoniously.  Reichert's response is so Bush-like, it is awesome.  He is not answering questions.  It just feels so robot-like.  It must be hard to be a Republican these days.  It's almost fun to watch.

Reichert is beatable if we have a candidate who is warm, funny, smart and sponaneous. I've seen Darcy Burner speak once up close and think she might be able to pull that off.  We'll see as the race goes on.

The 8th congressional is the only district in the State to never send a Democrat to congress. Even in 1992 when Democrats won anything and everything it elected Republican Jennifer Dunn. Hopefully this year we can make history by sending our first Democrat to the other Washington.

It's a good year for it. If not now, it may be awhile again.
