Debate between Burner and Reichert this Morning

A KING-5 debate between Dave Reichert and Darcy Burner will air this morning at 9:30 a.m. on "Upfront with Robert Mak".  Apparently Dave Reichert shows quite a temper.  Worth a watch!

Maybe the Seattle Times should have waited to endorse until they'd seen this.  Their endorsement of Reichert is absolute nonsense.

The journalistic integrity of the Seattle Times needs to be questioned. In the endorsement, they just regurgitated Reichert's press spin of the debate. They never bothered to check on whether Reichert actually said that he voted what the leadership told him to. They never bothered to actually check his voting record.

His statement of "So when the leadership comes to me and says Dave we need you take a vote over here because we want to protect you and keep this majority, I do it." is available on TVW's website at http://www.tvw.org/search/sitesearch.cfm?Keywords=Mainstream%20Republicans%20of%20Washington

Reichert is a puppet of the Republican leadership. He admitted it on camera. Show everyone in the county that clip and expose him for the fraud he is.

Furthermore, Reichert was alternately hot-tempered and scatterbrained at the debate in Bellevue last Tuesday. He's touted as having so much gravitas because he is the big honcho on the Homeland Security Committee, but - embarassingly - he had to refer to his notes when asked a question about homeland security! Does that inspire confidence?

The Times endorsement is a joke but it's not unexpected. This comes from the same paper that is pouring thousands of dollars into the I-920 campaign. Like Dave Reichert, they march in lockstep with the conservative agenda.

This is the same paper that endorsed Slade Gorton and George W. Bush, no?

To their Reichert endorsement, I say: BAH!

But fill me in after being away from WA a while--why couldn't Laura Ruderman be persuaded to run in the 8th CD?

I happened to talk with Laura just recently and asked her about running in general, i.e. what might be coming next for her. She said she is enjoying having a personal life and would have a hard time giving that up.

IF YOU FIND NOTHING ELSE OF VALUE IN THE SEATTLE TIMES ENDORSEMENT, IT DOES CLARIFY WHY IT IS ABSOLUTELY ESSENTUAL TO TERMINATE THE LAW SUIT AGAINST THE P. I. AND PERMIT SEATTLE TO REMAIN A TWO NEWSPAPER CITY, ALLOWING READERS TO HEAR MORE THAN JUST ONE SIDE OF THE STORY. THE MEDIA HAS BEEN COMPRESSED FAR TOO MUCH AND SEATTLE MUST PROVIDE LEADERSHIP TOWARD A RETURN TO FAIR MEDIA PRESENTATION.
