Federal Way? More Like Ostrich Way.

"Condoms don't belong in school, and neither does Al Gore. He's not a schoolteacher," said Frosty Hardison, a parent of seven who also said that he believes the Earth is 14,000 years old. "The information that's being presented is a very cockeyed view of what the truth is. ... The Bible says that in the end times everything will burn up, but that perspective isn't in the DVD."
Yes, that's the kind of brilliant, reality-denying thinking that the Federal Way school board just endorsed as it put in place a moratorium on the showing of "An Inconvenient Truth" in classrooms.

School Board members adopted a three-point policy that says teachers who want to show the movie must ensure that a "credible, legitimate opposing view will be presented," that they must get the OK of the principal and the superintendent, and that any teachers who have shown the film must now present an "opposing view."
Umm... there is no "opposing view."  The facts are clear and consistent. The "opposing view" is that of the ostriches in the oil industry, with their heads in the sand.

Whacko fundamentalists have no business making public policy. Period.

Stories like this piss me off to no end, the particular rankle being that Federal Way is supposed to be a member of the enlightened Puget Sound, and not given to intellectual cowardice.

I rapped out an LTE, sent it to both the Seattle Times and the Everett Herald, and mailed out copies of it to the Federal Way school board, as well as the Everett school board, lest they get any idears.

Jon, I'm afraid I can't read this post because you haven't presented an opposing view using the Bible. I'm sure the Bible has a stance on blog posts about climate change.

Also, the earth is 7,000 years old, not 14,000 - Frosty Hardison is clearly a nutcase. When the Gecko in the sky gave birth to the earth, heavens, and all things in between, it was 7,000 years ago, and any idiot knows this. The only people who deny it are liars and those who have been deceived by "rational" schoolteachers using "facts" created by the Fire Hawk who hates the Gecko and wants to deceive us. Everybody knows this.

I demand equal time on Evergreen Politics to teach the opposing views! Frosty Hardison does not belong on blogs, and neither do, um...apparently, randomly, condoms.
