Gregoire Gives a Barn-Burner

Chris Gregoire was smoking yesterday!  She gave the best speech I've ever heard from her and she wasn't even the main speaker at her own fundraiser luncheon.  New York governor Eliot Spitzer was.

She was looking great, seemed totally at ease, and pulled together all the threads of the great things she has done as governor.  Andrew of NPI has a nice post up on the event, a huge fundraiser at the Convention Center, and has a nice summary both of what Chris said and what Spitzer said.

Many folks have said in the past that Gregoire governs beautifully but can't campaign worth beans.  I think that time is over.  For my money, she was better than Spitzer, whom I've assumed is following Teddy Roosevelt's path from NY Governor to the Presidency.

Yup, I was at an Oly fundraiser a week prior and she is as they say fireing on all cylinders.

I hope you're right, Lynn. More power to her if it's so, but this sounds so unlike the Gregoire I've always seen that I'll reserve judgment until I see it for myself.

I wonder who finally got through to her about the importance of actually *running* when you're running for office. In the past she has always seemed utterly unable (or perhaps actively resistant) to campaign for office.

Neal, don't know what to say about the past but every clear indication I see is that Gov. Chris is going to run hard and smart and not give that Rossi crook a free ride this time. And I might add, she ran a strong campaign for AG the first time and had no need to do so to keep that job. So much was at play in 04 but she does get that things were not done well and has a new stronger team hard at work.
The key will be money and for people who like where our state is headed to not underestimate Rossi for one minute. People should give what they can and work as hard as they can. The choice could not be more clear. Just look at Alaska and all the corruption in recent years. WE must not let that happen here.
